What You Can Do to Help
What can you do to help?
The most important area in which you can help is letting people know that you feel Danny Murtaugh should be in the Hall of Fame. If everyone knew what he contributed to the game, he would have been in years ago. The following are some key areas of emphasis:
When writing or contacting someone, feel free to use anything on this site. You may rely heavily on comments on the Biography and Justification section of this site.
Remember, his record of winning percentage and championships is competitive with other managers, but his longevity is not. When dealing with any of these contacts below, it is important to emphasize that he meets the other requirements of integrity, sportsmanship, character and contribution to the game better than or equal to anyone else already enshrined. His love and loyalty for the game should always be stressed.
Write the Pirates and ask them what they are doing to help. They have the media contacts to make a difference but have not done so yet. They can be contacted by:
Pittsburgh Pirates e-mail (this is a form):

You may also write them at:

Senator and Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Bunning is active with the voting committee and actually sat the board last cycle. He is a big supporter of Danny Murtaugh. You may contact him to let him know how much support is out there this time for Danny and that may get him more active. He can be reached at:
http://bunning.senate.gov/public/
Once at his site, you can use the contact form on the left side of the page to post a comment for his staff to respond.
You can also write to his home address:

Fort Wright, KY 41011
Enter baseball blogs and any correspondence with your local newspaper; the bigger the paper the better. Try to convince the local sports writer to publish support for Danny. The more people hear his name, the more they will be apt to vote for him. Provide them information about him. Remember to emphasize his character in addition to his on the field accomplishments.
Peter Gammons and Tim Kurkjian of ESPN:
THESE ARE VERY IMPORTANT FIGURES IN BASEBALL MEDIA. If we can get them to support Danny Murtaugh, we are home free, I believe. Tim Kurkjian was a voting member in 2007. His comments tell me that he relies more heavily on total wins than anything else, so I do not believe he voted for Murtaugh last year and supported Whitey Herzog instead.

There are many ways to send e-mail, but I have not been successful in getting a message through to either of them.
The Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) will decide on the ballot in November. They also have a lot of power in the baseball community. A list of the BBWAA and their addresses is contained in the contact section of this site If you are from that area, contact them via their newspaper, television, or magazine and show your support for Danny. This is not an all-inclusive list.
The Veterans’ Committee is comprised of 64-Hall of Famers. Many of the members will vote in December for the managers and umpires. A list of the committee and their addresses, if we have them, can be found in the contact sections of this site.
Baseball Hall of Fame:
The Hall of Fame will collect all letters written on behalf of a candidate. You may write any member at MEMBER’S NAME, c/o National Baseball Hall of Fame, 25 Main St., Cooperstown, NY 13326 and they will hold the mail for that member. They will; however, not give the mail to the member unless he asks.
